What is Waterproofing Coatings?
Waterproofing coatings are protective coating systems designed to block water penetration and resist moisture damage on substrates such as concrete, cement mortars, masonry, and various building surfaces. Typical applications include bathrooms, kitchens, balconies, roofs, basements, foundations, water tanks, and wet rooms.
In these systems, performance additives are used to improve film integrity, flexibility, adhesion, crack-bridging ability, water resistance, and construction workability, while keeping the coating stable during production and application.

Common Challenges in Waterproofing Coatings Production
Manufacturers often need to address:
- Insufficient water resistance or water absorption reduction
- Cracking / poor flexibility and weak crack-bridging in temperature changes
- Poor adhesion on challenging substrates or after water immersion
- Sagging on vertical surfaces and weak thickness build
- Foam & micro-foam defects (pinholes, craters) that reduce waterproof performance
- Poor workability (draggy application, short open time, poor leveling)
- Stability issues (settling, viscosity drift, compatibility problems in polymer-cement systems)

FAQ
It depends on your formula type. Cementitious waterproof coatings commonly use RDP to enhance flexibility/adhesion, while liquid-applied systems rely on latex binders for film formation and crack-bridging. In some systems, they can also be used together depending on design targets.
Foam control is critical. Defoamer selection should match your surfactant/dispersant system and mixing shear. We typically recommend screening a small set to optimize micro-foam control without causing craters.
Cellulose ether selection (HPMC/HEMC) is key for water retention, viscosity build, and anti-sag. Share your target open time, density, and application method to choose the right grade.
Dosage is formulation-dependent. We can propose a starting trial range and optimize based on adhesion, water resistance, crack resistance, and application tests.
